Support Women and Families in Guatemala

One of the easiest and most important ways that you can help MFM continue its important work with traditional midwives in Guatemala was to make a tax-deductible contribution today. Their many donors help make the work possible. All gifts are meaningful and greatly appreciated.

Your donations make a difference...here's how:

$25 — Buys one textbook for a midwife (The Hesperian Guide)
$100 — Provides a safe birth kit for two midwives
$500 — Trains one midwife, positively affecting thousands of women

Midwives for Midwives had achieved all of its major accomplishments as a result of the commitment and vision of individual and foundation donors as well as volunteers. Their operational costs are low, which means that the vast majority of donations directly benefit traditional midwives and the women they serve.

Donate Supplies

Every day in the United States usable resources are wasted. Uncontaminated medical supplies or other items may be collected from hospitals and clinics and sent to MFM for redistribution to traditional midwives.

Contents of Safe Birthkit

  • Fetoscope
  • Two Hemostat forceps (curved or straight)
  • One umbilical scissor (curved, straight, blunt ends)
  • One Hesseltine alumninum reusable cord clamp
  • One box of “clean” gloves (small sizes that can be re-sterilized)
  • Blood pressure cuff
  • Stethoscope
  • Cotton surgical towels (reusable)

Other Needed Medical Supplies

  • IV tubing
  • Fish-type scales – weighing babies
  • Dopplars
  • Fetal heart monitors

MFM accepts volunteers year-round to assist their program in Antigua, Guatemala.

Increase public awareness and help to raise money: Read their newsletter and share what you learn with others. Put a link to their web site on your web site. Send an e-mail to everyone you think might be interested. Invite them to make a presentation to your group or to write an article for your journal, paper, or web site. Help them raise money by sharing this information with others you think might be interested they can send you more information and materials if you are interested in helping them raise money.
